DETAIL ITINERARY

DAY 01: ARRIVAL PARO | SIGHTSEEING | PARO

Upon arrival at Paro International Airport, you will be warmly welcomed by your guide and driver and transferred to the scenic Paro Valley. Your Bhutan experience begins with a visit to the magnificent Paro Rinpung Dzong, an impressive fortress-monastery and a fine example of traditional Bhutanese architecture. Explore its peaceful courtyards, temples, and sacred halls, adorned with beautiful murals and religious paintings, while learning about Bhutan's rich history, spirituality, and cultural traditions. Take a short downhill walk and cross a traditional cantilever bridge before enjoying a leisurely lunch at a carefully selected local restaurant. In the afternoon, visit the revered Kyichu Lhakhang, one of Bhutan's oldest temples, dating back to the 7th century. With its sacred shrine, prayer wheels, and tranquil surroundings, the temple offers a deeply peaceful and intimate cultural experience.

Later, journey towards the northern reaches of the valley to the historic Drukgyel Dzong Viewpoint. Built in 1649 to commemorate Bhutan's victory over Tibetan forces, the ruins stand proudly against the dramatic Himalayan landscape. On clear days, enjoy magnificent views towards the snow-capped summit of Mount Jomolhari, one of Bhutan's most sacred peaks. DAY 02: ATTEND FULL DAY PARO FESTIVAL | PARO

Today, experience the colourful and lively Paro Tshechu, one of Bhutan's most important traditional festivals. Held in the courtyard of the historic Paro Dzong, the festival brings together local families, monks, pilgrims, and visitors from different parts of Bhutan. Spend time watching the famous masked dances, traditional music, and religious ceremonies performed by monks and local dancers. These performances are an important part of Bhutanese culture and are deeply connected to the country's Buddhist traditions. The festival is also a wonderful chance to see Bhutanese people dressed in their finest traditional clothes and to experience the warmth and simplicity of everyday Bhutanese life. Walk around, meet local people, enjoy the festive atmosphere, and take photographs of the colourful celebrations against the beautiful Paro Valley.

In the evening, at your leisure, take a relaxed stroll through downtown Paro and enjoy the lively sights and sounds of the town. Watch local people going about their daily lives, explore the small shops and traditional Bhutanese stores, and soak in the friendly atmosphere of the streets. It is a lovely way to experience Paro at a slower pace and see the town beyond its famous landmarks. After your evening exploration, return to your hotel and enjoy a peaceful overnight stay in Paro.

DAY 03: ATTEND HALF DAY FESTIVAL | THIMPHU

Spend the morning immersed in the vibrant atmosphere of the Paro Festival, taking in the colourful celebrations, traditional dances, and joyful gatherings that bring Bhutanese culture to life. Continue enjoying the festival until the lunch break before stopping at a local restaurant in Paro for a hearty and delicious meal. After lunch, begin the scenic drive towards Thimphu, Bhutan's lively capital city, passing through beautiful valleys and mountain landscapes along the way.

Upon arrival in Thimphu, visit the impressive Buddha Dordenma statue at Kuenselphodrang, where magnificent views of the valley unfold below. Continue to the Memorial Chorten, an important spiritual landmark where locals often gather for prayer and quiet reflection. Later in the evening, enjoy some well-deserved leisure time exploring downtown Thimphu at your own pace. Wander through its streets, browse local shops, or simply soak in the relaxed rhythm of Bhutanese city life before settling in for the night.

DAY 04: THIMPHU SIGHTSEEING | THIMPHU

After breakfast, begin your day with a visit to the National Institute for Zorig Chusum, Bhutan's renowned School of Thirteen Traditional Arts and Crafts. Explore the workshops where young Bhutanese students learn and practise time-honoured skills such as painting, woodcarving, embroidery, sculpture, and other traditional crafts. Watching the students at work offers a wonderful glimpse into the patience, dedication, and creativity behind Bhutan's artistic heritage. Continue to the Motithang Takin Preserve, a peaceful sanctuary dedicated to Bhutan's unique national animal, the takin. Enjoy a gentle walk through the preserve, with opportunities to spot Himalayan wildlife and high-altitude birds. Later, drive to Sangay Gang and the BBS Tower viewpoint for sweeping views across Thimphu Valley, surrounded by forested hills.

After lunch, set out on an approximately one-hour hike from Dechen Phodrang to Chhoekhortse via Wangdue Tse Hill. The trail winds through beautiful pine forests, offering fresh mountain air and scenic glimpses of Thimphu Valley along the way. Later, visit Thimphu's lively weekend market beside the Wangchhu River, where local farmers and vendors gather to sell fresh produce and traditional goods. In the evening, enjoy a relaxed stroll through the city centre, exploring handicraft shops and browsing for meaningful souvenirs.

DAY 05: THIMPHU | PHOBJIKHA

After an early breakfast at your hotel, set out on a scenic journey from Thimphu to the peaceful Phobjikha Valley, a place known for its wide-open landscapes, traditional charm, and timeless connection to Bhutan's past. Your drive follows the East-West Highway through beautiful sub-alpine forests, passing the wooded hills of Yesupang and Hongtsho before reaching the spectacular Dochula Pass at 3,150 metres. Take some time to enjoy the fresh mountain air and admire the 108 chortens surrounded by colourful prayer flags. On a clear day, the pass also offers breathtaking views of the Himalayan peaks, making it a wonderful spot for photographs and a leisurely 20-minute walk.

From Dochula, the road winds downhill through the lush forests of Lamperi, Menchuna, and Thinleygang before reaching the fertile valley of Lobesa. Continue to Wangdue Phodrang, where you will explore the impressive Wangdue Dzong and enjoy a delicious lunch at a local restaurant. The journey then continues toward the tranquil Phobjikha Valley, taking you through Bhutan's beautiful pastoral countryside. After approximately two hours, the valley gradually unfolds before you. Check into your hotel, relax, and enjoy a gentle evening walk while taking in the peaceful surroundings and soft mountain twilight.

DAY 06: PHOBJIKHA SIGHTSEEING | BUMTHANG

Phobjikha Valley is a beautiful place to slow down, breathe in the fresh mountain air, and enjoy nature at your own pace. After breakfast at your hotel, begin the morning with a visit to the peaceful Gangtey Monastery, one of the valley's most treasured landmarks. From there, take a gentle nature walk around the Black-Necked Crane Conservation Centre, where open landscapes and sweeping views of the valley create wonderful opportunities for photography. Whether you choose to walk, hike, or explore the valley by mountain bike, Phobjikha offers plenty of ways to experience its peaceful surroundings and rural charm. After lunch at a traditional local farmhouse, continue your journey towards Bumthang, Bhutan's spiritual heartland.

The drive to Bumthang is an experience in itself, taking you through quiet forests, winding mountain roads, and beautiful rural landscapes. The route passes through Trongsa, where you can stop to admire the impressive Trongsa Dzong, dramatically built above a deep gorge. This historic fortress offers a fascinating glimpse into Bhutan's rich history, culture, and spiritual traditions. From Trongsa, the road climbs over the scenic Yotong La Pass before descending into the peaceful valleys of Bumthang. Along the way, you'll see forests, orchards, fields, and traditional villages, making the journey feel less like a transfer and more like a memorable journey through the heart of Bhutan.

DAY 07: BUMTHANG SIGHTSEEING | BUMTHANG

Bumthang Valley, situated between 2,600 and 4,500 metres, is widely regarded as the spiritual heartland of Bhutan, offering a beautiful blend of history, culture, and sacred traditions. Begin your journey with a visit to the impressive Jakar Dzong, an ancient fortress-monastery overlooking the scenic Chamkhar Valley. Continue to Jambay Lhakhang, one of Bhutan's oldest temples, believed to have been built in the 7th century by the Tibetan Buddhist king Songtsen Gampo. The temple is home to Jho Jampa, the Future Buddha, and is famous for the colourful Jambay Lhakhang Drup festival held each November. Your exploration then takes you to Kurjey Lhakhang, a sacred site closely connected with Guru Rinpoche, who is believed to have subdued evil spirits here and brought peace to the valley. The temple complex is also known for the sacred body imprints associated with the great Buddhist master.

With your local guide, explore the three temples before taking a short and pleasant hike to Tamzhing Monastery and the nearby Konchog Sum Temples. After lunch at a local restaurant in Chamkhar town, enjoy a scenic drive to the famous Burning Lake in Tang Valley. In the evening, take time to explore Chamkhar town and experience its relaxed local atmosphere.

DAY 08: BUMTHANG | PUNAKHA

After breakfast, begin your scenic journey to Punakha, the former capital of Bhutan and a valley rich in history, legends, and cultural heritage. Leaving Chamkhar town behind, the drive follows the East–West National Highway through peaceful rural landscapes, lush forests, rolling valleys, and dramatic mountain scenery. The road gradually winds through the quiet community of Gaytsa before climbing into cool, forest-covered hills. You will cross Yotong La Pass at 3,150 metres, the highest point of the journey. Take a short break here to enjoy the crisp mountain air and sweeping views before descending towards Trongsa. Upon arrival, explore the historic Trongsa Dzong, one of Bhutan's most impressive fortresses, and visit its sacred inner areas. You will also have an opportunity to meet young Buddhist monks and learn about their daily lives and spiritual practices.

After exploring Trongsa, continue for about 30 minutes to a beautiful viewpoint across the valley, where you can admire and photograph the dzong dramatically perched on its mountain ridge. The journey then winds through dense forests and traditional settlements such as Tshangka, Chendibji, and Sephu. Enjoy lunch in Sephu before continuing the drive through changing landscapes. After roughly two more hours, the road descends into the warmer and fertile Punakha Valley, celebrated for its beautiful scenery, peaceful surroundings, and rich cultural heritage.

DAY 09: PUNAKHA SIGHTSEEING | PARO

Your sightseeing in Punakha begins with a visit to the magnificent Punakha Dzong, also known as Pungthang Dewachen Phodrang. Set at the meeting point of the Pho Chhu and Mo Chhu rivers, this historic fortress offers a wonderful glimpse into Bhutan's spiritual and architectural heritage. Step inside to explore its sacred inner sanctum, where beautifully preserved paintings portray the life of Lord Buddha, the Wheel of Life, the Cosmic Mandala, and the thousand Buddhas. Take some time to wander through the peaceful courtyard, admire the intricate architecture, and, if you wish, interact with the young monks who live and study here. Their stories offer a personal glimpse into everyday monastic life.

The journey then continues with a scenic 30-minute drive north, followed by a gentle 45-minute hike through the countryside to Khamsum Yulley Namgyal Chorten, beautifully situated in the peaceful Hebesa Valley. The walk provides an enjoyable opportunity to experience rural Bhutan, with lovely views along the way. At the chorten, admire the intricate paintings and traditional Zangdopelri-style architecture as your guide shares its spiritual meaning and history. After a traditional Bhutanese lunch in Lobesa, continue the scenic drive back to Paro for your overnight stay.

DAY 10: TIGER NEST HIKE | PARO

Perched majestically on a sheer cliffside nearly 1,000 metres above the lush Paro Valley, Tiger's Nest Monastery, or Taktshang, is one of Bhutan's most extraordinary spiritual treasures. Steeped in centuries of legend, the monastery is believed to be where Guru Rinpoche arrived in the 8th century, flying on the back of a tigress to meditate in a sacred cave and subdue the forces of evil. Your journey begins with a scenic three-hour ascent through tranquil pine forests, where birdsong, mountain air, and sweeping valley views accompany every step. Midway, pause at the charming viewpoint café to savour a refreshing cup of tea or coffee while enjoying one of Bhutan's most iconic vistas.

From the viewpoint, continue for approximately 50 minutes to reach the sacred monastery itself. Explore its revered temples, meditation caves, ancient shrines, and treasured Buddhist relics, each revealing a deeper connection to Bhutan's spiritual heritage. After your visit, descend to the hillside cafeteria for a well-deserved lunch before continuing your walk to the valley floor. From the base, a private drive returns you to Paro, where the remainder of the afternoon is yours to unwind, explore, or simply savour the serenity of this enchanting Himalayan valley.

DAY 11: AIRPORT DROP | BON VOYAGE

After a leisurely breakfast at the hotel, you will be transferred to Paro International Airport in time for your scheduled flight to your onward destination.
