The journey reaches its high point with a memorable hike to the iconic Tiger's Nest Monastery, clinging to the cliffs above the Paro Valley. DETAIL ITINERARY

DAY 01: ARRIVAL PARO | SIGHTSEEING | THIMPHU

Your adventure in Bhutan commences in the charming town of Paro, nestled among lush green fields, traditional wooden houses, and breathtaking mountain scenery that immediately makes you feel like you've stepped into a peaceful dream. Once you land at the small Paro International Airport, a friendly local guide greets you and helps you settle in before you begin exploring the town's rich cultural side. You head first to Rinpung Dzong, a grand fortress that tells stories of Bhutan's history and deep Buddhist roots; walking through its quiet courtyards, you notice the intricate wooden carvings and bright wall paintings, and you can simply stand still for a moment to soak up the calm ambience. After that, a relaxed lunch at a nearby restaurant introduces you to the warm, comforting flavours of Bhutanese home style cooking.

In the afternoon you continue toward Drugyel Valley, pausing at the viewpoint of the old Drugyel Dzong, a fortress built in the seventeenth century to mark a hard earned victory, where the open landscapes and surrounding peaks give you a quiet chance to reflect on the country's past. Next comes Kyichu Lhakhang, one of the oldest temples in Bhutan, dating back to the seventh century; its simple, serene design and peaceful grounds offer a gentle first taste of the kingdom's spiritual heart. Finally, the road leads you through small villages, along the flowing Paro River, and past rolling green hills toward Thimphu, the capital. When you arrive, you check into your hotel, unwind after the day's travels, and spend the evening however feels right — strolling the streets, browsing local shops, sipping coffee in a cozy cafe, or simply resting and letting the day's impressions settle.

DAY 02: THIMPHU SIGHTSEEING | THIMPHU

Start your day in Thimphu, Bhutan's lively capital, with a peaceful visit to the National Memorial Chorten. Locals come here to pray, spin prayer wheels, and find quiet moments in their daily routines. You might see people gathering for blessings or simply walking around the stupa in calm circles. From there, head to Kuenselphodrang to stand beneath the towering Buddha Dordenma statue. Feel the cool mountain air, take in the wide valley views, and snap photos of colourful prayer flags dancing in the breeze. Later, stop at the Institute of Zorig Chusum, where young students keep Bhutan's thirteen traditional arts alive through painting, carving, and woodwork. It's a gentle reminder of how carefully these skills are passed on.

After lunch, visit the Motithang Takin Preserve to meet Bhutan's unusual national animal and hear the old legend about how it came to be. Drive up to Sangaygang for sweeping views of the city and the green hills beyond. Then wander the weekend market beside the Wang Chhu River, where vendors sell fresh produce and local goods in a cheerful, everyday bustle. As the afternoon softens, stroll through the streets and notice how traditional buildings sit comfortably beside modern shops. End the day at a simple local restaurant, sharing authentic Bhutanese dishes and the warm, easy hospitality that makes every meal here feel special.

DAY 03: THIMPHU | PHOBJIKHA

Depart Thimphu early in the morning and head toward Phobjikha Valley, soaking in the mountain views along the way. The road winds through thick forests and quiet landscapes until you reach Dochula Pass at 3,150 metres. Pause here for a moment to breathe the fresh air, watch the colourful prayer flags flutter, and walk among the 108 Druk Wangyel chortens. On clear days the snow capped Himalayas stretch out before you in all their glory. From there the journey continues toward the Punakha region. At Lobesa you can take a slow stroll through a traditional Bhutanese village, noticing the wooden houses and neat terraced fields, before climbing the short hill to Chimi Lhakhang. This little temple is linked to Drukpa Kunley, Bhutan's famous “Divine Madman,” and a visit here gives a warm, living sense of the country's spiritual stories and everyday beliefs.

After lunch the drive carries on toward Phobjikha Valley, passing small villages and open countryside. Higher up the land opens into wide green meadows and forested hills. In winter black necked cranes arrive from the Tibetan Plateau, and the local people take real pride in protecting both the birds and the quiet way of life that has long shaped this valley. Once you arrive, settle into your hotel and rest a while. Later a gentle walk along the nearby village paths lets you enjoy the soft mountain air and the simple beauty of rural Bhutan as evening settles in.

DAY 04: LONGTEY HIKE | PHOBJIKHA

After breakfast, you'll take a scenic drive to the quiet village of Longtey, just fifteen minutes east of Pele La Pass. From there the real adventure begins: a beautiful three to four hour hike that leads you toward the peaceful Phobjikha Valley. The path first winds through a small settlement where yak herders once spent their winters, then climbs gently into forests filled with rhododendron, fir, hemlock, and dwarf bamboo. As you walk, the mountain air feels fresh and clean, birds sing all around you, and the natural beauty of the landscape lifts your spirits. The trail eventually brings you to Kaychela Pass at about 3,700 metres, where colourful prayer flags flutter in the breeze. Take a moment here to enjoy the sweeping views of the valley below, with Gangtey Monastery nestled among rolling green hills. From the pass you descend toward Kumbu village, where your vehicle waits to carry you the rest of the way to the monastery.

Once you arrive, spend some time exploring Gangtey Monastery, an important Buddhist site perched on a ridge that looks out over the whole valley. Learn a little about its history, its spiritual meaning, and the local traditions that still live there, all while soaking in the calm atmosphere and lovely scenery. After your visit, return to the hotel for a freshly prepared lunch. The afternoon is yours to relax and simply enjoy the quiet charm of Phobjikha Valley at your own pace. Later in the evening, take a gentle walk through a nearby village. You'll meet local people, watch their everyday activities, and gain a small window into their customs and way of life. It's a simple, heartfelt experience that shows the warmth, traditional values, and deep connection with nature that still shape daily life in rural Bhutan.

DAY 05: NATURE TRAIL HIKE | PUNAKHA

After a quiet breakfast, you set out for a gentle morning hike along the nature trail near the Black Necked Crane Conservation Centre. The path starts close to a small Khewa community temple on the eastern edge of the valley. You cross a modest stream and then ease uphill through soft pine forests and peaceful villages. Along the way the open valley stretches out below you, framed by green hills and clusters of traditional houses. The walk lasts about an hour and moves at a calm, unhurried pace so you can simply enjoy the scenery. Locals often call this place a little Switzerland in Bhutan, and the beauty is hard to miss — keep your camera handy. Fresh mountain air fills your lungs as you follow the trail toward the entrance of Gangtey Monastery, soaking in the stillness and the soft light on the hills.

Later, lunch is served in a local farmhouse, a simple and welcoming meal that feels like a proper farewell to Phobjikha. Afterward the road carries you toward Punakha, Bhutan's former capital. The drive takes roughly two hours and winds through forested hills and quiet settlements, with views that keep shifting and inviting another glance. When you reach Punakha you check into your hotel, feel the milder air of the lower valley, and settle into its warm, easy atmosphere.

DAY 06: PUNAKHA SIGHTSEEING | THIMPHU

Start your day in Punakha by visiting the beautiful Punakha Dzong, also called Pungthang Dewachen Phodrang. It sits right where the Pho Chhu and Mo Chhu rivers meet and stands as one of Bhutan's most loved historic forts. Wander through its quiet courtyards and admire the traditional buildings and sacred rooms filled with colourful paintings. These artworks share stories from Lord Buddha's life and show the Wheel of Life, the Cosmic Mandala, and the thousand Buddhas. Take your time to notice the details and soak in the peaceful feeling of the place. If you're lucky, you might meet some young monks and hear about their daily studies and life in the monastery.

After the dzong, enjoy a scenic thirty minute drive north, then take a gentle forty five minute walk through the countryside to Khamsum Yulley Namgyal Chorten in the calm Hebesa Valley. The path gives lovely views of hills, green fields, and traditional villages, offering a real glimpse of rural Bhutanese life. At the chorten, look at its detailed wall paintings and graceful Zangdopelri style design while your guide shares its history and spiritual meaning. Once you have explored, head to Lobesa for a traditional Bhutanese lunch and taste some local flavours. Later, continue the drive to Thimphu, watching the scenery change along the way. When you arrive in the capital, check into your hotel and relax for the evening.

DAY 07: THIMPHU | HAA | PARO

Following breakfast at the hotel, you set off toward Paro, taking the scenic route through Haa Valley and over Chele La Pass. The drive begins along the national highway, winding through the quiet countryside south of Thimphu until you reach Chuzom, where the rivers meet. From there the road turns toward Haa, with a short stop at Dobji Viewpoint to take in the surrounding hills and peaceful views. You continue past the rural villages of Dawakha, Javana, and Bitekha, watching traditional houses, green fields, and mountain scenery unfold. The road then drops into the charming Haa Valley, where you pause for lunch at a local restaurant before visiting Lhakhang, a special place of worship for the community and a chance to learn a little about the valley's traditions and spiritual life.

Once you've explored Haa, the drive climbs for about forty five minutes up to Chele La Pass. High in the mountains, the pass offers fresh air and wide views of peaks and valleys — perfect for photos and a quiet walk. After soaking in the peaceful atmosphere, you begin the roughly one hour descent into Paro. As you enter the valley, green fields, traditional farmhouses, and the mountain backdrop come into view. Upon arrival you check in at your hotel and take time to rest. The rest of the day is yours to wander downtown Paro at your own pace — browse the shops, sit in a cafe, or simply enjoy a leisurely stroll through town before the evening settles in.

DAY 08: TIGER NEST HIKE | PARO

Start your day with a memorable hike to Tiger's Nest Monastery, one of Bhutan's most special places. Perched high on a rocky cliff above the Paro Valley, this beautiful monastery is well worth the effort. Local legends say Guru Rinpoche flew here on a tigress in the eighth century and meditated in a cave, and it remains a sacred site for pilgrims and visitors today. The trail begins at Ramthangka and winds gently through pine forests filled with fresh air and mountain views. Some parts can feel challenging, so take your time and enjoy each step. Pause at a viewpoint café for a drink and a distant look at the monastery before the final climb. At the top, explore the temples, admire the traditional architecture, and soak in the peaceful atmosphere. Afterwards, enjoy lunch at the viewpoint before heading back down to the valley.

Later, return to your hotel to rest or stroll around Paro town. In the evening, visit a traditional Bhutanese farmhouse for a genuine taste of local life. Soak tired muscles in a hot stone bath, a cherished Bhutanese custom that uses heated stones to warm the water. You can also try archery, the country's national sport, and learn why it holds such cultural importance. Finish the day with a home-cooked dinner shared with a local family. Savour traditional dishes, exchange stories, and discover everyday customs. This warm, personal experience is a lovely way to connect with Bhutanese culture and appreciate the simple joys of life here.

DAY 09: AIRPORT DROP | BON VOYAGE

Enjoy your breakfast at the hotel before checking out and heading to Paro International Airport for your flight home. Your guide and driver will accompany you to the airport and say goodbye, wishing you a safe and pleasant journey home.
